Amazon CloudFront Custom SSL

If you want to deliver your content over HTTPS using your own domain name and your own SSL certificate, you can use one of our Custom SSL certificate support features. Custom SSL certificate support lets you deliver content over HTTPS using your own domain name and your own SSL certificate. SNI Custom SSLServer Name Indication Custom SSL relies on the SNI extension of the Transport Layer Security protocol, which allows multiple domains to serve SSL traffic over the same IP address. Amazon CloudFront delivers your content from each edge location and offers the same security as the Dedicated IP Custom SSL feature. When you use SNI Custom SSL, some users may not be able to access your content because some older browsers do not support SNI and will not be able to establish a connection with CloudFront to load the HTTPS version of your content. You can use SNI Custom SSL with no upfront or monthly fees for certificate management; you simply pay normal Amazon CloudFront rates for data transfer and HTTPS requests. Dedicated IP Custom SSLIf you need to deliver content to browsers that don’t support SNI, you can use the Dedicated IP Custom SSL feature. To use Dedicated IP Custom SSL certificate support, upload a SSL certificate and use the AWS Management Console to associate it with your CloudFront distributions. If you need to associate more than two custom SSL certificate with your AWS Account, please include details about your use case and the number of custom SSL certificates you intend to use in the CloudFront Limit Increase Form. Because of the added cost associated with dedicating IP addresses per SSL certificate, we charge a fixed monthly fee of $600 for each custom SSL certificate you associate with your CloudFront distributions, pro-rated by the hour. If you had your custom SSL certificate associated with at least one CloudFront distribution for just 24 hours in the month of June, your total charge for using the custom SSL certificate feature in June will be * $600 = $20. How to create a self-signed Certificate

The following is an extremely simplified view of how SSL is implemented and what part the certificate plays in the entire process. If SSL utilizes public key cryptography to encrypt the data stream traveling over the Internet, why is a certificate necessary? The technical answer to that question is that a certificate is not really necessary – the data is secure and cannot easily be decrypted by a third party. The certificate, signed by a trusted Certificate Authority, ensures that the certificate holder is really who he claims to be. Without a trusted signed certificate, your data may be encrypted the party you are communicating with may not be whom you think. The openssl toolkit is used to generate an RSA Private Key and CSR. It can also be used to generate self-signed certificates which can be used for testing purposes or internal usage. Step 2: Generate a CSR. Once the private key is generated a Certificate Signing Request can be generated. Ideally, the CSR will be sent to a Certificate Authority, such as Thawte or Verisign who will verify the identity of the requestor and issue a signed certificate. How To Install an SSL Certificate from a Commercial Certificate Authority

This tutorial will show you how to acquire and install an SSL certificate from a trusted, commercial Certificate Authority. After you have acquired your SSL certificate, we will show you how to install it on Nginx and Apache HTTP web servers. There are several prerequisites that you should ensure before attempting to obtain an SSL certificate from a commercial CA. This section will cover what you will need in order to be issued an SSL certificate from most CAs. Let’s Encrypt is a new certificate authority that issues free SSL/TLS certificates that are trusted in most web browsers. Before acquiring an SSL certificate, you must own or control the registered domain name that you wish to use the certificate with. In addition to the previously mentioned points, you will need a web server to install the SSL certificate on. If your website’s SSL certificate is signed by a trusted” CA, its identity is considered to be valid by software that trusts the CA-this is in contrast to self-signed SSL certificates, which also provide encryption capabilities but are accompanied by identity validation warnings that are off-putting to most website visitors. This guide will show you how to obtain a single domain or wildcard SSL certificate from GoDaddy and RapidSSL, but obtaining the other types of certificates is very similar. The certificate issued for your domain and the CA’s intermediate certificate will be at the bottom of the email. We will walk through the process of acquiring a single domain certificate, but you can deviate if you want a different type of certificate. If you have not used GoDaddy for SSL certificates before, you will be prompted to set up the “SSL Certificates” product, and associate your recent certificate order with the product. Replace the SSL Certificate for Your Classic Load Balancer

If you have an HTTPS listener, you deployed an SSL server certificate on your load balancer when you created the listener. You must ensure that you renew or replace the certificate before its validity period ends. Certificates provided by AWS Certificate Manager and deployed on your load balancer can be renewed automatically. If you imported a certificate into ACM, you must monitor the expiration date of the certificate and renew it before it expires. After a certificate that is deployed on a load balancer is renewed, new requests use the renewed certificate. To replace a certificate, you must first create a new certificate by following the same steps that you used when you created the current certificate. After a certificate that is deployed on a load balancer is replaced, new requests use the new certificate. You can replace the certificate deployed on your load balancer with a certificate provided by ACM or a certificate uploaded to IAM. To replace the SSL certificate for an HTTPS load balancer. On the Listeners tab, for SSL Certificate, choose Change. If you created or imported a certificate using AWS Certificate Manager, select Choose an existing certificate from AWS Certificate Manager, select the certificate from Certificate, and then choose Save. If you imported a certificate using IAM, select Choose an existing certificate from AWS Identity and Access Management, select the certificate from Certificate, and then choose Save. If you have a certificate to import but ACM is not supported in the region, select Upload a new SSL Certificate to AWS Identity and Access Management. Note that the certificate chain is not required if the certificate is a self-signed certificate. Within the Customer Portal, all SSL Certificates ordered through SoftLayer may be managed from the SSL Orders screen. This screen tracks all orders, including the common name, certificate type and expiration date of the Certificate, but does not contain any Certificate-specific details such as the Certificate itself or the Private Key. From this screen, current and expired SSL Certificates may be renewed under their pre-existing terms and Fulfillment emails may be requested to receive the SSL Certificate details if they have been lost. All requests made from the SSL Orders screen are routed to the appropriate Certificate Authority for the SSL Certificate, which will fulfill the requests as necessary. Because SoftLayer is not in possession of the SSL Certificate details, we are unable to provide any additional information regarding the Certificate. In addition to managing SSL Certificates ordered through SoftLayer, users may import SSL Certificate data to the Customer Portal to use the data with our various products and services. All interactions regarding SSL Certificates that have been imported take place on the SSL Certificates screen within the Portal. Users have the ability to manually import, edit and export details regarding the SSL Certificate(s) present on this screen. SSL Certificates may be deleted at any time. As with the SSL Orders screen, SoftLayer will not control, track or record this information, as it is considered one of the most confidential pieces of information that our customers possess. SSL Certificate details stored on this screen will only be used in conjunction with an account’s products or services when set up by the user.
